I didn’t know much about Sabrina carpenter other than how she was the girl from Girl Meets World. I watched a few interviews with her during those times and she seemed like a sweet kid. That’s really where my journey ended with Sabrina. I had no interest in listening to her music until yesterday when everybody was talking about her latest video for ‘Alien’ and I thought to myself…why the heck not. I gave it a go and was absolutely floored by her singing abilities. In more ways than one. She’s a young kid but also it’s hard to separate yourself from the Disney sound. Many young artists get caught in that cycle of Disney production. There’s nothing wrong with it. There’s certainly a large fan base in that but the limitations are there. There are a few artists who thrive past that but it usually takes awhile. Artists like Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato, Bridgit Mendler were some that really made a name for themselves and shed that Disney skin.
There aren’t a whole lot of young kids in that spotlight who are able to not let that popularity overwhelm them. It’s a tough place to be. I admire and respect Sabrina for not losing herself along the way. It’s incredibly important that the millions of young kids who support her are able to have a good role model. I can’t tell you how many times it kills me when someone with a young fan base teaches them to go out and physically hurt people or destroy property. It’s always a really cool feeling when you meet someone that you see on TV or hear on the radio and they’re super awesome. It sucks when you meet your idol and they end up not giving 2 fucks about you. It’s soul crushing. Especially if you’re a young fan. i am proud that we have someone like Sabrina in the spotlight.
As far as Alien goes I highly enjoyed it and I’m for sure going to keep an eye on her music from now on. She is just getting started and has a long career ahead of her. The fact that there was so much buzz around her song goes to show that people are digging her music and maybe one day I’ll be the one giggling like a little school girl if I get to blog interview her.
