A festival that has seen some of the biggest musicians play at has officially cancelled the event in 2018 due to a recent report of a sexual assault which was reported on June 30th. Apparently, there have been a total of 11 cases of sexual assault since the festival opened in 2013. I wanted to give my honest thoughts about this whole incident like only I can. Every other news website will just report the news like a bunch of robots without giving their personal thoughts on the subject. Here I go.
Should the festival have chosen to close down? Yes and no. No because closing this event for a year isn’t going to do a god damn thing to prevent these assaults from happening. All it’s going to do is take away music from people who want to go to a live show. You’re punishing thousands of people for something beyond their control. YES it should be closed down if the festival security is not doing their jobs. But this story doesn’t mean it’s entirely security’s fault. It may happen regardless. They just need to hire more security in the areas where these incidents took place and they will have better chances to prevent it from happening in the future.
Is the festival to blame? Not really. Yes, they can hire more security and have a better system in place to prevent assaults but unfortunately these sick people will always find an opportunity to prey on these women. What I wanna know is are these assaults happening in front of everyone? Are people just watching it happen and not doing a thing about it? Most likely they’re taking out their cell phones and recording the whole thing. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen youtube videos of people getting assaulted and I’m wondering why the fuck there are 100 people watching and 1 guy recording and none of them are doing a damn thing to stop that assault. This is the world we’re living in right now. “this women’s getting assaulted. I could call the cops but how about I just take out my phone and upload the video to youtube so i can get thousands of views!”
My last bit of advice to anyone reading this is if you see someone getting assaulted step in and do something or at least call the police.
